Flush & Kill Shampoo is NOT a stand-alone mite treatment. However, when combined with Mite Avenge®, it can help accelerate treatment with its unique ability to clear away the waste layers that protect mange mites. All benzoyl peroxide products may cause temporary hair lightening.

Dogs end up with dander, yeast flakes and other debris that must be removed daily. Otherwise, they add to the mites’ food supply and harbor pathogens that increase the chance of secondary infection. Here’s a great tool to that exfoliates better and more gently than any brush. A good habit is to brush right before performing your daily povidone iodine wipe down.

PROPER TECHNIQUE FOR BATHING WITH BENZOYL PEROXIDE SHAMPOO

Bathe indoors to keep the dog warm throughout this process. To keep the air in the room warm, use a small space heater if you have to. USE THE WARMEST WATER POSSIBLE. Bathing where it’s cold, or with cold water, is counter-productive! Benzoyl peroxide opens the pores and follicles, but cold closes them. Think about how how you feel and how your skin reacts in cold air or chilly water. Nothing’s going to penetrate tense skin with pores and follicles that have slammed shut. It’s also a pretty miserable experience. Don”t undermine your hard work and your dog’s recovery. Please do not use cold or room-temperature water when using benzoyl peroxide.

  1. If you don’t already have a hand-held shower that will reach, get one of those hand held sprayer attachments that goes over the spigot so you can rinse with copious amounts of running warm water. Sluicing out those follicles with tons of warm running water is what flushes out the gunk and help get rid of higher level mites.
  2. Wet poochie thoroughly first with warm water (not cool or room-temperature).
  3. Be generous with the benzoyl peroxide shampoo. (Diluting it slightly in a bit of warm water may make it easier to spread.) Cover every part of the dog’s body. Leave no safe places for mites, yeast and infection.
  4. Lather well and continue to work the lather constantly for a long time. (At least 10 minutes if you can. Some people go as long as half an hour!) Keep adding a little warm water if necessary – just lather for as long as you can. Massage the skin with your fingers if possible to help break up crud build-up. Work the shampoo around the eyes, ears and paws. Our store has protective eye drops if you need them to work up close to the eyes.
  5. After some warm soaking, it can be helpful to gather folds of skin, gently gripping as close to the body as possible without causing discomfort. You want to have a decent fold of skin above your hands. Gripping both sides of the skin fold close to the body, gently squeeze as you glide your hands towards you as if to express subcutaneous matter. Massage therapists use a similar technique to help loosen toxins in tissue.
  6. Rinse, rinse, rinse. Really flood that skin ever so thoroughly with warm running water — then rinse some more. It’s the rinsing that is your friend. Thorough, aggressive rinsing provides the flushing action we want. (But not with a pressure washer please) Our goal is to open pathways so Mite Avenge can penetrate better, create a healthier skin environment, reduce yeast. Proper use of benzoyl peroxide shampoo does that and it helps purge toxins, waste, sebum, trash and mites lurking below the surface. It’s not weird to spend as long or longer rinsing than you did lathering.

REMINDER: Don’t use cold or cool water, it defeats the purpose! Cold closes the follicles. You won’t get much benefit and a cold rinse could trap soap and nasties inside. And don’t try to spot bathe, it does not work. The magic is in how the benzoyl peroxide opens the skin to soften, open and help break down the walls of the impenetrable yuck that the mites brick themselves in with to protect themselves. Once the shampoo has done its thing, you need to do lots of long rinsing to help remove the blockages, surface mites, yeast, detritus and gunk. Isn’t that what we want? You really can’t accomplish this with light or even normal rinsing.

    This is a wonderful shampoo for all kinds of skin issues. I use it on our long-hair German Shepherd as part of his Demodex-control plan and I also use it on our other GSD from time to time to keep her skin healthy. It smells great, too.

    Great Shampoo
    My dog has allergies to grass and often gets yeast infection on his belly and hind legs with loss of fur. This shampoo cleared up those issues completely. He used to crawl across the carpet to scratch his belly….no more. He is itch free and very happy.
